8 Things to Kick Start Your October

Happy October!

It's finally here--Autumn--and that means pumpkins, colored leaves, raking colored leaves, fall festivals, and cool crisp afternoons. Here's eight things to kick start your October.

Festival Season

Autumn Jewish festivals. Rosh Hashanah or the Jewish New Year is September 30 and October 1 and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, follows on October 9. Why does this matter? Check out this article on Celebrating Jewish Autumn Festival as Christians.

Are You One of These People?

Tim Challies says, "I am convinced every church needs more of these people—more people who see their presence as a great contribution to their church." Find out if you are those people HERE.

Your Testimony

This article from Christianity Today says, "When we consider our personal testimonies, we must allow ourselves to see not only the snapshots from before and after we came to know God, but more importantly, to see a God who works before and after we even know he is at work at all." READ HERE how our testimonies should point to God's faithfulness even before our conversion.

Eating Healthy and Exercising

"There’s a fine line between eating healthy and exercising as a way to worship God and care for His temple, versus eating healthy and exercising to “be pretty” or admired by the world." Melissa D'Arbian's blog post from Proverbs 31 Ministries Devotions talks about loving our bodies as God's masterpiece. READ MORE here.

Transform Your Thought Life

October is a great time to add to your reading list. My friend Sarah Geringer reviews a few of the newest books HERE. In fact, Sarah also has a book coming out October 1st, Transforming Your Thought Life, Christian Meditation in Focus. I just finished my advanced copy and this is an excellent book for those who want to take captive those self-defeating thoughts. Each chapter focuses on a specific area of thought. My favorite chapter, of course, is "Negative Thoughts." Great practical application, too. You can find it on Amazon HERE.

Prayer Warrior Tool

Speaking of new book releases, my dear friend Laurie Hampton's new book was released earlier this month. Laurie is all about being a prayer warrior and, of course, that's what her book is about. It's a 30-day devotional for the heart of a warrior and each devotion will remind you of the hope you have in Christ Jesus. You can order your copy of A Warrior of Hope HERE. Congratulation to my friend Laurie.

Bible that answers all your questions

One more new book--Zondervan recently released the Quest Study Bible and as a Bible Gateway Blogger Grid member, I received a free copy for review.

This is a great bible for new believers, or even a seasoned disciple. You know how when your kids were little they had a question about everything. "Why?" "What's that?" "Can you dig to China in our backyard?" Even today, we have questions and this Bible answers them.

On every page, you can find the answers to all kinds of questions. For instance, "How is Jesus like a shepherd?" "How should Christians settle differences?" All of the answers to these and hundreds of other questions are answered with a solid biblical foundation. This is an outstanding tool for learning more about the what the teachings in the Bible. Take a look HERE.

Just Listen

One last thing--Do you ever wonder what to say when a friend is hurting? Maybe the answer is to say nothing, just listen. Take a look at this article about the discipline of listening HERE.

Thank You

As always, thank you for being part of my dream to write and encourage women to know they are loved by Our Creator. I want welcome all of the new subscribers and followers and new friends. Would love to hear from you. By the way, HERE is the link to your monthly scripture memory cards. This month we are memorizing parts of Psalm 119 about God's law, precepts and commands, all a lamp unto our feet.
